You might have called your ISP’s tech support and got help over the phone at one time or another. If you have done this a few times, one time or another they would have open a command prompt and type a series of numbers like 127.0.0.1. After which you’ll find a bunch of results, which most likely you wouldn’t have understood then since your mind was on your Internet connection and not on the troubleshooting being done.

We will define what 127.0.0.1 is in the discussion below. We will also go over some computer networking basics so that beginners may understand the uses of this string of numbers. Finally we’ll go over the uses of this series of numbers and how it helps you troubleshoot your network connection.

The Loopback Address 127.0.0.1

127.0.0.1 is otherwise known as the loopback address. This is also an IP address that is designated to a computer on a network. Every computer on a network should have a unique IP address so that it can be identified on the network. As with IP addresses, the loopback address also specifies which computer should receive a requested packet of data.

However, the loopback address is categorized under a special group of IP addresses that will not usually be assigned at random to computers on a network. Defined by RFC 3330 by the Internet Engineering Task Force, this address along with 12 others has been designated for special purposes.

This simply means that no computer on any network can have an IP address of 127.0.0.1. If a router or any other network gateway gets a packet intended for this and other special address, that device is required to drop that packet.

The Purpose of the Loopback Address

The name given to 127.0.0.1 also gives its purpose away. The term ‘loopback’ already hints at the purpose for this address. This IP address refers the very computer sending out the packets. For example, you type the command:
ping 127.0.0.1

Your computer will send out four packets and will receive four packets in return with a 0% loss report. This simply means that your computer sent out four packets of data to itself and received all four packets back, thus the name for this special address.

If you get 0% loss on this ping request then you know that your network interface card is working. You also know that the drivers for that device also work and that your computer’s TCP/IP is functioning as well. As you might have guessed, this special IP address is primarily designated to test your own computer.

Enterprise resource planning is one of the most used computer and database management approaches in big corporations. This approach is very helpful in improving the overall performance of companies. Before implementing the process, it is important to know the benefits as well as the risks associated with it. To learn what is enterprise resource planning, let us have a closer glance at the advantages and disadvantages of applying this data management approach.

Overview

What is enterprise resource planning? Enterprise resource planning refers to a systematic process of integrating all the functions and departments of a company in an efficient computer network. The approach is cost efficient because the firm does not need to use various computer software to monitor and manage the functions and operations of the departments.

A typical enterprise resource planning system features software modules for supply chain management, customer relationship management, data warehouse, customization and access control. In addition to these, the system includes modules for human resources, financials, project management as well as manufacturing. Most international corporations use enterprise resource planning software because it is very reliable and efficient in managing the activities of firms concerning inventory, logistics, shipping, accounting and invoicing.

Advantages

Most international companies benefit from the use of an enterprise resource planning system. With the implementation of this approach, employees became more productive since they can easily get the data that they need by accessing the system. For instance, if a human resource department staff is doing a report about the payroll, the employee does not need to go to the finance department to get the data needed for the report. By accessing the system, the employee can find and download information that will be used in the report. When it comes to the security of data, companies have nothing to worry because most enterprise resource planning systems have security features, which are very important to prevent problems concerning embezzlement and industrial espionage.

Disadvantages

Like other computer systems, enterprise resource planning software has limitations. One of the disadvantages of using the software is it is costly. Additionally, the system affects the boundaries of power in corporations, which can cause troubles regarding lines of responsibility, accountability as well as employee morale. Another disadvantage of using the software is that it is very complex. In this regard, companies should form a reliable IT management team that will be in-charged with the effective and successful employment of the system. To avoid security breach, the team should regularly change the passwords to secure confidential data.

Anyone who uses the Internet and computers will recognize the need to change passwords. Here are the ways that you can alter them.

Requirements

Internet connection

Computer

Copy of information entered at site / program

Instructions

For Email Programs

All email services (software or Web based) allow you to change this piece of information. This process itself varies. After logging in, you can go to the “options” or “preferences” section. There you will see a link for altering the data.

What happens next depends on the service. Some will simply require you to enter the old password and then type in the new one. Others may ask you to reenter information you provided when you signed up.

These can include birth dates or answers to questions posted; for example, who is your favorite comic book hero? So when you decide to change passwords, having a copy of the personal info you entered is critical.

For Websites

A lot of websites now require users to create an account before they can participate. Usually you have to enter data like the username and an email address as well. If you need to alter it, you usually have two options. You can look at the interface / control panel and look for the right option. If there is none, you should send an email to the administrator.

For Internet Service Providers

Online service providers offer different methods to change passwords. Some provide the means at their website. Just log in to the website and enter your personal data. Then you can alter the passwords. Other sites require you to notify the administrator by email. Sometimes you will be referred to technical support. It’s probably not required, but having some personal info by your side might come in handy.

For Windows XP

Go to the Start Menu and open the Control Panel. Click the User Accounts. Choose your profile from the list. You will see the dialog box. In the first box, type your original password. On the next two, type the new ones. Now press the “change passwords” button. Close the windows. When you next log in, the changes will take effect.

For Windows Vista

Click Start and head to Control Panel. Go to Family Safety / User Accounts. Note: if you are in Classic mode, just double click the User Accounts.

Go to the “make changes” and you’ll see the appropriate link. Follow the steps you did in Windows XP mentioned earlier.

For Mac OS X

Go to System Preferences. You’ll see four icons. Click “My Account”. You’ll see the “Password” and “Change” buttons. Click “Change”. Type your original password. Two lines will appear. Type the new one there.

Tips and Warnings

Your passwords should be altered frequently. This will make it difficult to crack. Also, don’t choose obvious ones like birthdays or your first / last name. An alphanumeric combination is best.

Knowing how to change passwords is necessary knowledge. It can spell the difference between keeping your personal info safe and losing it. By knowing how to alter them, your data will be in better shape.

A wireless network is a special and advance kind of computer network that is usually associated to telecommunications networks, which interconnections are implemented with the use of electronic waves. Many computer users prefer wireless network because it is cost efficient and the transmission of data in this network are faster than other computer networks. To make sure that the network will be compatible with the computer system to be used, it is important that the user have sufficient understanding on the different types of wireless networks.

Wireless PAN

What are the types of wireless networks? There are four types of wireless networks, which include the Wireless Personal Area Network (also known as WPAN). This computer network is important to interconnect computer tools located in the same area. For instance, Bluetooth can provide a wireless network that can be used to connect a laptop and a headset in the same room.

Wireless Local Area Network

Another type of this computer network is the Wireless Local Area Network (also known as WLAN). This network is a good alternative to local area network because it uses radio to transfer data from one computer system to another. This is the most used wireless network in homes, offices and schools. WLAN has two types, namely Fixed Wireless Data as well as Wi-Fi. Fixed Wireless Data uses microwaves to establish connections between computer systems in two different locations. Wi-Fi uses radio waves to interconnect electronic devices that are Wi-Fi ready.

Wireless Metropolitan Area Network

Wireless Metropolitan Area Network or WMAN is a type of wireless network that is used to connect wireless LANs. To computer users who are interested in using WMANs that are categorized under IEEE 802.16d/802.16e, they can use a telecommunications technology known as WiMax.

Mobile Device Networks

Mobile device network is an advance type of wireless network. This network is widely used in present times to transmit and store computer data in mobile phones. Some of the special features of this computer network are the Global System for Mobile Communications, Personal Communication Service and Digital Advanced Mobile Phone Service.

The Global System for Mobile Communications is categorized into three systems, namely the base station system, the switching system as well as the support and operation system. Personal Communication Service uses radio band to transmit computer data between mobile phones, but this feature is only available in North America. Finally, Digital Advanced Mobile Phone Service allows people to make calls between analog and digital cell phones.

Most people would find it interesting to know who created the first computer. Who are the brains behind the first “electronic brain?” There has been a lot of debate over finding the answer to this question as the term itself has had several associations. The word “computer” was first used to describe a person who was tasked to handle various data. But as technology allowed us to do so, people began developing an electronic device that would mechanically input and process data with ease. The term itself was carried on to describe the new innovation.

We Can Never Be Certain

Pegging the exact person to be given credit for inventing the first electronic computer, is also made difficult by the range of factors involved. Whose idea was it? Who first published the idea? Who designed it? Who made the first prototype that could accurately perform its intended functions? To make things more complicated, it wasn’t just the United States competing for this recognition. People from all over the world were working hard, all at the same time for their own claim to fame.

The World’s First Computer is Created!

Konrad Zuse of Germany began working on the Z1 in 1936 and finished in 1938. It is considered the first electrical binary programmable computer. It had a meager 64-word memory and 1Hz clock speed. John Vincent Atanasoff and Cliff Berry began working on the Atanasoff-Berry Computer, also known as ABC in 1937 and was finally completed at the Iowa State College in 1942. It is known as the first digital computer. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly of the University of Pennsylvania are to be credited for the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator which is better known as the ENIAC. It was completed in 1946 and was said to occupy approximately 1,800 square feet. The incredible machine used roughly 18,000 vacuum tubes and weighed almost 50 tons. The driving force behind its creation was to aid the US government with the war against Germany.

Computers Were Bigger Than the Room You’re Sitting in

It is hard to imagine how a computer that took up an entire room could have evolved to the size of the ones we are used to today. In 1971, the Kenback-1 came out retailing at $750.00 which was a fortune at that time. The Xerox Alto came out in 1974, which was the computer to first come out with a display and mouse. Adam Osborne developed the Osborne I which featured a floppy disk drive and modem. Finally in the 1980′s the first Personal Computer came out under the manufacturer Compaq. IBM also came out with a PC called the Acorn which utilized the infamous MS-DOS.

Variety And Selection – An Evolved Electronic Market

These days, there are so many computers to choose from – from MACs to PCs. Bill Gates once said that we would not need more than a floppy disk to store all our files. Now people hardly even know what a floppy disk is. What’s gaining popularity now are the micro-size USB flash drives that are also known as thumb drives. Those micro gadgets can store up to 8 gigabytes of memory. There are also electronic passports that can virtually allow us to take our entire hard drives with us wherever we go. The electronic brain continues to develop to this very day. With more operating systems and more efficient hardware coming out, the sky’s the limit.

There are many different types of Internet Explorer script error messages. Their causes are almost as numerous. But the following are the most common reasons.

Problem with the Script Itself

There are different types of scripts being used on the Web. A lot of them are JavaScript, but some are written in Visual Basic or Jscript. Due to their complexity, errors can appear. If they are due to a programming mistake, you can only wait for the webmaster to repair them.

Conflicts with Antivirus Software

Open your antivirus software and check the configuration. Reconfigure it so that it doesn’t check the Temporary Internet Files folder. If the problem persists, change the antivirus setup so it doesn’t scan the Download Program Files section too.

Firewalls

Firewalls can block scripts and various applets. Aside from Java applets and ActiveX, the various scripts may also be blocked. This can lead to Internet Explorer script error messages. Check your firewall settings. If you are on a network, contact the system administrator about the problem.

Clear the Internet Folders

If the Temporary Internet Folders are crammed, the browser may experience problems. Aside from the error messages, it can also lead to slowdowns. Go to the Tools menu and click Internet Options. Click “Delete Files”.

DirectX Conflicts

If your DirectX version is old, download the new version. These files are mostly concerned with sound and video components. However it is also intertwined with the browser. Go online and download the newest version. Restart the computer and open the browser. This can eliminate the Internet Explorer script error messages.

Remove the Error Messages

Most of the time you can still access the web page but the error messages will keep appearing. To remove the error warnings, go to the Tools menu. Go to the Internet Options and choose “Advanced”.

To get rid of the error, remove the check at the “Display a notification error about a script error”. Press OK. Reload the page. While the script errors are still there, you won’t get any more messages warning you of this.

Other Possible Causes

There are other potential problems. If your video card drivers are old, it might have problems displaying web pages. Go to the company’s website and download the drivers. This can help you remove Internet Explorer script error messages.

If the problem persists it could be due to the web browser itself. Go online and download the latest patches. Better yet, you should download the newest version.

You should also look at the various plugins and third party utilities you have installed. Some of these might cause problems with the scripting. Check the readme.txt files. These might contain information about scripting issues as well.

Debugging

A note here about debugging: you might get a message asking if you want to “debug the error”. If you know how to do this, click yes and the Microsoft Script Editor will open. But if you’re not familiar with this, don’t tamper with it. Just click no and disable the error messages as stated earlier.

These Internet Explorer script error messages happen quite often. But these are not serious, and the solutions mentioned above can resolve most of these problems.

The SPDIF or Sony Philips Digital Interconnect Format is utilized for relaying signals on several electronic components. It’s currently being used on everything from computers to DVDs to other popular audio devices.

Data Rate and Bit

There are many data rates it can use, but the most frequent is the one at the 44.1 kHz range. This is the range for the typical stereo CD. For DAT (Digital Audio Tape), it is set at 48 kHz. The transmission rate is set at 16 bits. The format actually supports up to 20 bits.

The 16 bit limit is due to the restrictions within the CD format itself. The SPDIF can also handle 24 bit, albeit not directly. The format also uses a couple of 192 blocks. These are separated into a dozen words each.

When data is relayed some bits are cut from it. These are not necessary information though. These are eliminated to ensure the crispness and accuracy of the data.

Specifications

Every data frame is made up of 384 words. These are separated into two groups of 192 for channels A and B. Although it is advanced, it still adheres to the AES/EBU standards. The connectors have been changed though. It used to be XLR. But it was replaced with the RCA or TOSLINK.

The latter is also known as the EIAJ. The change was made to simplify connections for various appliances. The SPDIF 110 pair was eased out in favor of the 75 coaxial cable.

Advantages

The device has been setup for many purposes. For most however, it’s used to connect a computer to a DVD player. The abovementioned changes have made the process easier to do. The alterations have also simplified the process for linking CD ROM drives.

Aside from ease of use, there are additional benefits. These include noise elimination. It also removes the other troubles associated with analog devices. These usually include the shaking, choppiness and other unwanted noise. The static noise generated by using a non SPDIF format is eliminated too.

To use the format, only an I/O cable is required. With this, it’s only a matter of linking it with the RCA plugs. By using an optic fiber type, virtually all extraneous noise is removed. Much of the interference comes from the computer itself. However the shielded coaxial type can eliminate this.

Some Reminders

Usually, most of the problems that come with using different audio formats come from lack of understanding. When you purchase a DVD or electronic equipment, check its specifications. You’ll want to want to make sure that when you buy the cable and other components, it will work with this format.

When connecting audio devices and computers, you should check the user guide for connecting the jacks and other components. When you have installed it, consult the manual for the proper settings. It’s important that you get familiar with it to avoid problems.

The SPDIF format makes it possible to experience noise free sound with your audio devices. The simplicity of its setup makes it even more attractive for both consumers and professionals who want high audio quality.
