A keylogger is one of the most dangerous and harmful programs that can be loaded into your PC or laptop. Computer experts refer to this program as monitoring spyware, which has the capacity to record all the personal information and data stored in your computer. This is very dangerous because it is invisible and it can run silently so you will not have idea that the PC has a keylogger. To make sure that your computer is safe from this program, it is important to know the effective way of detecting as well as eliminating the spyware.

How do I remove a keylogger? To do this, you need to make sure that your PC has the minimum system requirements. It is also necessary that you know the steps in detecting a keylogger before you can successfully remove the malicious program from the computer.

Minimum System Requirements

A personal computer or laptop with any of these OS, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista

Fast Internet connection; preferably broadband or DSL connection

Instructions for Detecting the Computer Program

Select the menu bar on the desktop and press Task Manager.

Click Ctrl + Alt + Del and check the applications that you are currently using.

Select the tab that refers to Processes.

Check the hidden programs or applications.

Instructions for Removing the Computer Program

Purchase efficient anti spyware program like AdAware as well as Windows Antispyware.

If you are having problems purchasing such computer application, you can download a trial version of anti spyware from the Internet.

One of the websites that you can visit to download anti spyware free is www.avast.com.

Follow the prompts and install the computer software in your PC or laptop.

Select Start and click Control Panel.

Check the System tab and select System Restore.

Select the box pertaining to Turn off System Restore on all drives.

Select Apply and close the window.

Reboot and scan the computer for malicious software.

If the anti spyware program has identified a keylogger, you need to move the harmful program to Quarantine.

If the program cannot repair or clean the program, it is best that you delete the application.

After removing a keylogger, activate the System Restore option in your computer.

Tips and Warnings

With the increased threats of identity theft and fraud being posed by ever-evolving cybercriminals, it is often a good idea to ensure that your information is protected, and that nothing potentially identifying is left unattended to. A main source of gathering personal data is by examining your browsing history stored in Internet Explorer. This may have passwords and searches saved, the websites you have browsed, and more. Deleting your browsing history on a regular basis is a great way to not only save space on your hard drive, but to protect your information and privacy.

Open Internet Explorer. This can be accessed by clicking on the Start Menu > All Programs > and then Internet Explorer, which is usually located near the top. For faster access, you can right click the icon and select ‘Pin to Start Menu’ or, if you’re using Windows 7, you have the additional option of selecting ‘Pin to Task Bar.’ Additionally, you may consider dragging the Internet Explorer icon onto your desktop.

Click on the ‘Tools’ button, which is located beneath the Navigation Bar, directly below the Search Box.

After clicking on ‘Tools’ you will see a drop-down menu appear. Click on ‘Internet Options,’ the last selection available on the menu.

A new dialog box will appear titled ‘Internet Options.’ You will see a number of buttons – the most important being ‘Delete…’ but let’s disregard that one for now. Above the ‘Delete…’ button you will see the option to have your browsing history deleted whenever you exit the browser – click the checkbox if you wish to enable that feature. To the right of the ‘Delete…’ button you will also see ‘Settings.’ It is recommended that you click this button and ensure that the settings meet your standards. (This is covered in Step 6.)

To clear your browsing history, click on the ‘Delete…’ button, which is located under the heading ‘Browsing History,’ about halfway down the window. You will be granted the ability to select exactly what you want deleted when you select to clear your history: Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, Form Data, Passwords, and InPrivate Filtering Data. (The last option being dependent upon your version of Internet Explorer.) Fortunately, the dialog window explains the function of each checkbox in plain English. Read them carefully to determine what information you want preserved and what you want deleted.

If you’re interested in taking a look at the settings, you will see a number of options. It is usually not necessary to alter these, but you are free to do so if you wish. You’ll have the ability to change when Internet Explorer checks for newer versions of stored pages, set how much disk space is available for that feature, see the files that are stored, and finally, select the number of days for which your website history is stored.

See? That wasn’t so hard, was it? Deleting your browsing history in Internet Explorer takes only a minute, but could save you major headaches down the road. Good luck!

By learning how to delete Internet history files, you get to remove any traces of what sites you’ve been visiting. At the same time, removing these files can make your browser work much faster.

Requirements

Web browser

History cleaning software (optional)

Instructions

Internet Explorer 6.x and Up (Windows)

Double click the program to open it. Now go to the Internet Options at the Tools menu. There will be a “Delete Files” button there. Click it. The files will now be removed.

You can also remove the history when you exit the browser. Go to the Internet Options and click “Advanced”. Place a check mark on the “Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed”. This feature is found under the Security tab.

Internet Explorer 4.x (Macintosh)

This is how to delete Internet history files in IE for the Mac. Just click the hard drive icon. Go to System and then Preferences. Go to “Explorer” and drag the history into the bin.

Mozilla Firefox

If you use this browser, you should go to the Tools menu. Select “Options”. There will be a “Privacy” tab. Click it and you will see “History”. Press the “Clear” button and all the files will be erased.

Netscape

Open the browser. Depending on the version you may need to choose your profile first. When the software loads, click Edit, Preferences. Go to “History” and press “Clear History”.

Opera

Here is how to delete Internet history files in this browser. Go to the File menu and choose “Preferences”. You’ll see the “History” there. Just click “Empty History” or “Empty”. Like Internet Explorer, you have the option of deleting the files after each session. Just set a check on the “Clear on Exit” box.

Tips and Warnings

Most browsers allow you to set a date when all these files can be removed automatically. In Internet Explorer, go to the Internet Options at the Tools menu. You’ll see something like “Days to keep files”. The default number is 20 days. You can enter any number you like. Other browsers have similar features. By learning how to delete Internet history files manually and automatically, you’ll have more options.

Make sure that you want all these files deleted. Browsers keep these files for easy retrieval. They can also be viewed offline. So make sure that you don’t need them anymore.

There are commercially available applications that will erase thesefiles for you. Although the manual process is easy, some prefer to use these programs. They offer more flexibility and options. They also automate the process. This may be handy for those who forget to delete the files after a session.

Alongside the remove history options in browsers are options for deleting cookies. These are placed by some websites in your system. You can delete them too for more privacy. Keep in mind though, that some websites require them before you can visit their pages.

If you want to maintain your privacy, knowing how to delete Internet history files is a must. Even if you’re not concerned about privacy, erasing these files will make your browser move and load quicker.
