Most of the time, these devices are very easy to install. But if you get a USB not recognized error, you can try some of the following solutions. These might help you resolve the problem.

Faulty Wiring or Connections

Sometimes the problem can be as simple as the device not inserted properly. If it refuses to work or you get that message, take a look at the cable. Is it fitted in all the way? Pull it out, and put it back in. Check that it is secure, and see if it works.

If that doesn’t work, check the wirings and cables. If one or more is loose, it can disrupt Windows’ scanning of the hardware. Turn off the PC and adjust the wirings as needed. In many cases this can remove the USB not recognized error.

Disable Power Management

Go to Windows’ search. Type “devmgmt.msc”. Select the file when it appears and press enter. You’ll end up at the USB properties section. Head over to Power Management. Get rid of the check mark on the “allow computer to turn off this device”. Reboot. This might help in getting the OS to install the device. You can also use this method on notebook PCs. The drawback is that it can lower battery life.

Download Drivers / Patches

It’s possible that the device needs a patch or driver to run on your system. To remove the USB not recognized error message, update the device. If the device doesn’t need any updated drivers, maybe it’s your operating system that needs one.

Install via Add New Hardware

This is another method you can try. Make sure the device is attached. Now go to the Start Menu and click Control Panel. Double click Add New Hardware. Let Windows check for all installed hardware. Wait for the scanning to finish. If the device is recognized, you can use it now.

If it doesn’t appear, close the Add New Hardware. Open it again and choose to add the device manually. If needed install the device using the CD installer. This can help you overcome that USB not recognized error. If not, click next until you see the screen listing manufacturers and devices. Choose your device from the list.

Adding Devices in Standby

Don’t add any devices when your PC is in standby mode. First, get out of that mode. Wait for half a minute and then install.

Tips

Read the manual. In particular check the troubleshooting guide for any helpful tips. If it comes with a CD, look for a readme file. You should also check the website or forums for more information.

Before buying a device, make sure that the operating system recognizes it. The device itself will say which OS it can run on. Check its other system requirements too.

Don’t disassemble the device or forcibly plug it in. You might damage it. Just follow the suggestions above.

There are many reasons why you might see a USB not recognized error on your system. But now that you know the possible solutions, you’ll be able to face and tackle the situation more effectively.

Connecting multiple monitors to a single computer is very useful or helpful to some enterprises. Many firms have been using this feature for a couple of years now and it is available on computers with operating systems developed by Microsoft, Macintosh and Linux. Using the feature is beneficial because it allows the computer users to view several data at a time.

How do I connect multiple monitors to my laptop? To do this, it is necessary that the laptop to be used have the minimum system requirements. In addition to this, there are simple steps that should be followed to successfully connect several monitors to the computer.

Minimum System Requirements

A laptop with any operating system from Macintosh and Linux

The recommended operating systems for Windows-based computers are Windows 97, Windows ME, Windows XP and Windows Vista

Any graphic card like PCI, AGP or PCI Express

Latest drivers for the card

A video card

Instructions

Install the graphic card. To do this, look for the graphic card slots. If you are installing PCI, look for PCI slots on the side of the monitor. If you will use AGP, look for the AGP slots above the graphic card slots for PCI. Insert the graphic card in the proper slot. If you are installing several graphic cards, make sure that you shut down the laptop every time you install a card.

Connect the monitors to the laptop. This step is very easy because most operating systems like the Windows XP can easily identify the monitors to be connected.

Configure the devices that will be connected. Go to the desktop and right click. Choose Properties and select the Settings Tab. Another way of doing this is to click Start and go to Settings. Choose Control Panel, select Display and click the Settings Tab.

Click the secondary monitor. You can identify this because it has number 2. If you are connecting the third monitor, choose the monitor with number 3.

Set the monitors depending on how you want the monitors to be arranged on your desk. Click the monitor and choose the button referring to the phrase “Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.” Click Apply and you will see that the monitors are now functional.

Tips and Warnings

The steps are the same when connecting more than two monitors to a laptop. However, remember that you need to purchase and install a PCMCIA video card to connect two or more monitors to the computer. Put the card into the video card slot and the computer can detect it instantly. Install the video card and start connecting the other monitors to the laptop.
