One of the most used multimedia formats, Moving Picture Expert Group-4 (also known as MP4) provides computer users with good quality broadcast media. This computer program was launched in 1999 and since then, many people use MP4 in different Internet streaming applications. This program is also useful in viewing files on advanced mobile phones. However, if you think that the program consumes a lot of space of your computer or cellular phone, then it is best that you convert MP4 to MP3.

How do I convert MP4 to MP3? MP3 is a smaller audio format that can be used by people to listen to music using music players. Converting MP4 to MP3 is very easy, however, it is important that the computer system to be used has the minimum system requirements. Below are the steps that you can follow to convert MP4 to MP3.

Minimum System Requirements

A file converter program

A computer with any of these operating systems, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP and Windows Vista

Windows Media Player program

At least 128 megabytes RAM

Instructions

Install the file converter program. If you do not want to spend much for this program, you can download trial versions of format converter programs like Movavi Video Converter over the Internet. Follow the instructions carefully to complete the installation.

When the installation process was completed, restart the computer and check if the program is now ready to be used.

Go to desktop and create a special folder for the MP4 files that you want to convert to MP3 files.

Run the file converter program.

Follow the steps to convert the files as a group or one-by-one. Do not forget to select a conversion rate for the files. You can select the default rate of the program.

Go to the preferences option of the program and make sure that you set a pop up window so that you will be notified when the conversion of the files was done.

Go to desktop and create another folder for the converted files.

Save the files in the folder and rename the folder to avoid confusion. Check the quality of the sound files. If you think the sound is not clear, then the best thing to do is to change the conversion rate.

Tips and Warnings

If you are downloading a trial version, make sure that you scan the program before you install. Some websites load viruses in your computer while you install the program, so it is best that you also have an efficient anti-virus program to check and remove the viruses.

You don't have to take the computer to the shop when you see the "no audio device error" message. Here are some suggestions and solutions you can try first.

You don’t have to take the computer to the shop when you see the “no audio device error” message. Here are some suggestions and solutions you can try first.

First, an overview of the basic facts: this error message refers to the lack of sound from your external hardware or sound device. There may still be some sounds from the internal speaker.

Modify the BIOS Settings

Reboot your system and enter the BIOS setup program. Usually you have to press a function key to enter it. Refer to your user guide to know the right key to use. Go through the various options. Look for the audio mode. Turn it to auto. Exit and save the changes. Reboot and see if there are sounds now. If there is, then the “no audio device error” was due to the BIOS problem.

Update the Device Drivers

The sound device could be using an old driver. Go to the vendor website and download the newest drivers. You can go to the Control Panel too. Check the sound board properties. There will be an “update driver” tab there. Click and the download will continue. You need to be connected to the Net to do this, of course.

Reinstall the Sound Device

Turn off the computer and remove the sound board. The problem could be improper installation. Refer to the user manual to make sure all the jumpers and wires are connected in the right location. If the cables are loose, the “no audio device error” will often appear.

A Defective Device

Remove the gadget and try it on another computer. If it doesn’t work, the problem is with the device itself. Return it to the shop and get a replacement. Bring the warranty card with you.

Incompatible Software

If you installed another sound device before, it could be causing problems. Go to the Add/Remove Programs and see it is still there. It can happen that users will just remove the hardware but the software is still there. This can lead to system conflicts. Remove the software and restart the computer. Now reinstall the device and its accompanying applications. This can remove the “no audio device error” message.

Go to Online Forums

The Internet is a good source of information. Aside from the vendor website, go to online forums. State your problems. There may be someone out there who knows the answer. In a lot of cases, this can be as effective as calling technical support.

You can also visit the operating system’s website. They may have some information about this specific device. If there are incompatibility issues, the workaround may be stated there.

While at the website, download the latest patches too. These might help in resolving the problem. Sometimes the error message pops up because of glitches in the system itself.

If you see the “no audio device error”, you shouldn’t panic. Try some of the above mentioned suggestions first. If it fixes the problem, then you don’t have to worry about taking the computer to the repair shop.

The SPDIF or Sony Philips Digital Interconnect Format is utilized for relaying signals on several electronic components. It's currently being used on everything from computers to DVDs to other popular audio devices.

The SPDIF or Sony Philips Digital Interconnect Format is utilized for relaying signals on several electronic components. It’s currently being used on everything from computers to DVDs to other popular audio devices.

Data Rate and Bit

There are many data rates it can use, but the most frequent is the one at the 44.1 kHz range. This is the range for the typical stereo CD. For DAT (Digital Audio Tape), it is set at 48 kHz. The transmission rate is set at 16 bits. The format actually supports up to 20 bits.

The 16 bit limit is due to the restrictions within the CD format itself. The SPDIF can also handle 24 bit, albeit not directly. The format also uses a couple of 192 blocks. These are separated into a dozen words each.

When data is relayed some bits are cut from it. These are not necessary information though. These are eliminated to ensure the crispness and accuracy of the data.

Specifications

Every data frame is made up of 384 words. These are separated into two groups of 192 for channels A and B. Although it is advanced, it still adheres to the AES/EBU standards. The connectors have been changed though. It used to be XLR. But it was replaced with the RCA or TOSLINK.

The latter is also known as the EIAJ. The change was made to simplify connections for various appliances. The SPDIF 110 pair was eased out in favor of the 75 coaxial cable.

Advantages

The device has been setup for many purposes. For most however, it’s used to connect a computer to a DVD player. The abovementioned changes have made the process easier to do. The alterations have also simplified the process for linking CD ROM drives.

Aside from ease of use, there are additional benefits. These include noise elimination. It also removes the other troubles associated with analog devices. These usually include the shaking, choppiness and other unwanted noise. The static noise generated by using a non SPDIF format is eliminated too.

To use the format, only an I/O cable is required. With this, it’s only a matter of linking it with the RCA plugs. By using an optic fiber type, virtually all extraneous noise is removed. Much of the interference comes from the computer itself. However the shielded coaxial type can eliminate this.

Some Reminders

Usually, most of the problems that come with using different audio formats come from lack of understanding. When you purchase a DVD or electronic equipment, check its specifications. You’ll want to want to make sure that when you buy the cable and other components, it will work with this format.

When connecting audio devices and computers, you should check the user guide for connecting the jacks and other components. When you have installed it, consult the manual for the proper settings. It’s important that you get familiar with it to avoid problems.

The SPDIF format makes it possible to experience noise free sound with your audio devices. The simplicity of its setup makes it even more attractive for both consumers and professionals who want high audio quality.
